So, there’s this guy, Doug Rawlings, a Vietnam War veteran who remembers the Animals’ “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” as speaking for him and his buddies up in the Central Highlands. And then discovering Edwin Starr’s “War” as really talking to him. And of course John Prine’s “Sam Stone” and Iris Dement’s “Wall in Washington” as really speaking to the postwar heartache of American veterans and their loved ones.
